On a gorgeous June morning, Dessi and Ron gathered with their two closest supporters to exchange vows overlooking the water.

And honestly, it was perfect.
A Love Story Built on Friendship
One of my favorite parts of officiating a ceremony is sharing a couple’s story.
Dessi and Ron’s story began somewhere neither of them expected: the volunteer firehouse in Montville.
Ron, a lifelong firefighter and Fire Chief, and Dessi, who eventually returned to her hometown and the fire service she loves, first became friends long before they became partners.
Through emergency calls, long conversations, community service, and countless shared experiences, their friendship slowly became something more.
Most couples look forward to date nights.
Dessi and Ron looked forward to hearing the firehouse tones in the middle of the night because it meant they might get to spend time together.
Somewhere between the chaos, the long shifts, and the everyday moments, they realized they were happiest together.
“No Judge, No Jury”
Throughout their relationship, Dessi and Ron have embraced a simple phrase:
“No Judge, No Jury.”
These words became a central part of their wedding ceremony because they perfectly represent the foundation of their relationship.
To them, it means creating a safe place where each person can be fully themselves.

One of the most emotional moments of the day came at the beginning of the ceremony when Dessi’s mother, Janice, formally offered her blessing and support as Dessi entered this next chapter.
Rather than “giving away” her daughter, Janice stood beside her as a source of love, encouragement, and family support.
Later, Ron’s best friend, Micah, shared a little about Ron and their friendship before participating in the ring presentation along with Janice.
With only two guests, who were also a part of the ceremony, the ceremony felt incredibly intimate and intentional.
Every person present played an important role in their story.
Heartfelt Vows with a Touch of Humor
One thing I loved about Dessi and Ron’s ceremony was the balance between heartfelt emotion and genuine laughter.
Before exchanging vows, they began with a simple question they often ask each other:
“Are you happy?”
Both answered with a confident, heartfelt “I am.”
Their vows focused on continuing to support one another through both ordinary days and extraordinary moments.
And because every great marriage needs a little humor, the promises also included:
- A lifetime supply of Ron’s cooking
- Back rubs provided without excessive negotiation
- Remaining each other’s favorite person to answer firehouse tones with
The laughter from their small group made these moments even more memorable.
