I need to start by saying how much I love this couple and how excited I am for them to become parents and meet their new baby. I’ve known Leila and Fraz for a couple of years. I photographed their wedding almost two years ago, and I did a little happy dance when they told me they were having a baby and could I do their maternity pictures?
The story of their maternity session is something else! First of all, this session took place five weeks after we initially picked a date, because we were pretty much in monsoon season. We got rained out over and over and over again! Finally, we saw we were going to get an evening with no rain, and the park we picked especially for the tulips was scheduled to have a free concert that night. There was no way we were going to be able to photograph there! We were obviously afraid of postponing again, so we went with Plan B. I was excited because I knew Wickham Park has the potential to give beautiful sunsets overlooking Hartford. We stayed through sunset, got some gorgeous images, said our goodbyes and got into our cars.
And the story does not end here. We got all the way to the front of the park, and surprise… we are locked in!! After some phone calls to the police, the park rangers and Mr. mbm, somebody doing his rounds with a key finally drove by. I was on the phone with the police and Leila and Fraz saw him and waved him down. He may be our hero, but I’m pretty sure he’s also the one who locked us in! So maybe not! ha!
Anyway, I’m so glad we ended up photographing at Wickham Park. The gardens there are absolutely amazing and the variety is something else. Also, the lighting in some areas literally made me gasp.
Leila and Fraz, I am so excited for you to become parents! Your baby boy is a lucky lucky little man to get you for a Mommy and Daddy. Thank you for allowing me to continue to photograph your life story. I am honored that I get to be the one to capture these moments for you.
