We had the absolute pleasure of photographing Sydni and Filip’s fall engagement session at a stunning local land preserve, and let me tell you, these two are naturals in front of the camera! From the moment we met up, their love for each other was so evident, and it made capturing their connection such a joy.
When I asked Sydni and Filip how they met, their story instantly captured my heart. Sydni shared, “We met in high school. Filip and I had psychology class together. We had never really talked, but I had always wondered about the kid who somehow always showed up late every day to the last class of the day (which is the total opposite of me!). One day he asked me to senior prom after class. Up until that point, we never necessarily knew each other, but our lives ran oddly parallel. From 5-year-old Filip tearing up a random neighbor’s garden bed that just so happened to be my aunt’s, to years later him seeing my older sister riding her scooter outside but too shy to ever ask to join. Then middle school-aged Filip becoming good friends with my stepbrother while I had gone to a different school. Just a lot of funny little instances where our paths almost crossed but didn’t. I guess we didn’t truly meet until we were meant to!”
I absolutely love that their love story was full of serendipitous moments and tiny connections before they finally crossed paths!
And the proposal story? Wow, it’s as sweet and unexpected as their journey together. Sydni told me: “The proposal was a complete surprise! Obviously, after being together for nine years, I would have thought I would have suspected something, but that was not the case. We had gone to New Hampshire for a weekend trip to see the solar eclipse. The day after the eclipse, we were visiting a few of our favorite spots. It was early April, it had snowed a few feet of snow just days before but it was oddly hot (75°F) and super sunny. We went to Diana’s Baths and walked to the top of the waterfalls where Filip proposed. I was in complete shock. We had never gone to the jewelry store together. I never knew he had even looked for a ring, let alone purchased one and asked my dad! So when I turned around and saw him and then saw a sparkling ring, I truly thought I was dreaming. So much so that he had to ask me to marry him again because all I could say was, ‘What?!’”
Filip added: “The look of shock on her face when I had proposed to Sydni. Also, we were followed by butterflies the entire time we were at Diana’s Baths. It was snowy but warm and sunny—very odd conditions for two little butterflies to keep flying around us, landing, and staying close to us. We like to think it was a loved one being with us for the special moment. Also, with the ring itself, after reviewing the paperwork, the diamond was certified or basically given the ‘stamp of approval’ on that loved one’s birthday. Which feels like a nice nod from them.”
What a beautiful and meaningful moment for them, filled with unexpected magic and sweet signs!
Sydni and Filip, it was such a joy to spend the day with you both and capture these special moments. We can’t wait to be part of your wedding day—it’s going to be incredible!
